Every plastic
modeler, at least once in his lifetime, has the wish
to create a representative model of his own country. We
are not the exception of the rule and since we
began in plastic modeling, we always wanted to
have an Ecuadorian aircraft and searched among
old Airfix, Frog or matchbox kits for our
Strikemasters, Canberras, Texans, etc. In those
days, It was very difficult for us to buy the kits and
much worse was the decals problem. All this really
frustrated our ambitions and the only alternative was to
produce our own decals
from scratch or simply painting the insignias directly
onto the model. |
|
After a few years, we were invited to join a
project with Aztec Decals from Mexico and our
dreams became true and could produce excellent
quality decals in 1/72 and 1/48 scales with
Ecuadorian subjects. To this initiative, soon
were added others like Albatros from Mexico and
FCM from Brazil, who saw a rising market for
Latin American and Ecuadorian subjects,
specially after the Cenepa War in 1995 were
Ecuador was inserted in the world map for
operating sophisticated aircraft like the Kfirs,
Jaguars and Mirage F.1s and also for coming out
as winners of the first air to air combat in
South America. |
|
The
reason for this article is to present the modelers a
list of kits, decals and other items for detailing and
completing Ecuadorian aircrafts in any scale available,
both military and commercial. There are many options,
but unfortunately not every aircraft can be built at
this time and sometimes you will have to get a vacuform
or resin kit, because there is no injection kit or
simply try to build it from scratch. |

This work will be updated
regularly, and you will have to
check here often in order to find what's new and who
produces what you need to complete your Ecuadorian
aircraft collection. Please be patient if you do not
find what you are looking for, and if you know about
something that is not listed, please write to
